Almuñécar Minerals Fair

ALM MInerals Fair OnLThe III Feria de los Minerales on the Paseo de San Cristóbal in Almuñécar drew hundreds of curious residents and visitors alike.

The fair opened on the morning of Friday the 25th July opening from 11.00h to 14.00h & 18.00h to midnight. One of the attractions was the Corazón de Uruguay (an agata stone) with Michel Almeras from Minerales Monteluz explaining its origins in a talk entitled El Camino de Corazón.

Saturday saw a talk on the geological history of the Río Verde area given by the Vice Chairman of the Colegio de Geólogos de Andalucía, José Carlos Feixas. The starting point was the Palacete de La Najarra.

Then in the evening at 20.00h, again in the Palacete de La Najarra, the chief engineer for the Minerva Mines in Órgiva gave a talk on the importance of mining in our lives.

There was also a film show entitled: Sierra Lújar y su minería, about the past and present of the Lújar mines.

Anyway, I won’t go on any more but simply add that this yearly attraction is truly interesting and demonstrates just how much mining has gone on around this area.
