After weeks of uncertainty over who the PA (hinge seats) would support, they have declared for the socialists, thus denying the hitherto Mayor continuation in office.

This new arrangement will mean that the present Mayor of Motril, Luisa García Chamorro will be packing up her stuff in the Mayor’s office and moving out.

The new Mayor, therefore, will be Flor Almón – see article photo.

The deciding factor for the hinge party, the PA, was that the socialists also govern in the provincial and regional governments, which will see less resistance to push through projects for Motril that entail the benign support of those authorities.

So, Luisa García Chamorro leaves office having never won the mayoralty through democratic elections – she took over the office when the previous mayor left to act as an MP in the regional parliament as she was the Vice Mayor at the time. Although she won these elections, she failed to win the Mayor’s office.
