By sheer coincidence, the eternal roadworks in Almuñécar on Puerta del Mar were completed… just before the municipal elections!
Yes, for months the endless digging up and filling in had turned life for the struggling businesses into a prolonged hell, but now the machinery has been out laying the definitive layer of tarmac.
Apparently, this section of beach road between the Avenida Juan Carlos I junction and the actual Paseo del Altillo was pending the completion of a main-drain connection near the Río Verde bridge, just a bit further along.
Yes, without a doubt, a lot of necessary work; necessary to rectify botched work from a decade ago, amongst other things, from when the new Paseo del Altillo was built.
Anyway, the official job description reads that just over 6,000 sq/m of pipes were laid along 160 metres and 12 rain drains installed.
As for sewage infrastructure 398 metres of pipping was laid with 70 inspection points. And finally 200 metres of water-mains pipes were laid, all connected up to the housing, with a sprinkling of irrigation points and several fire hydrants thrown in.
So, hallelujah, bring on the dancing girls, and that’s that… until a year down the line when it will no doubt be all dug up again, or maybe that is just us, being cynical?
