Cázulas Fire, Otívar

ALM cazulas fire OnLA blaze that originated next to the Cázulas area of the municipality of Otívar broke out last night. The fire began near the entrance to Cázulas itself.

First reports were that the Palacete de Cázulas and cortijos in the area had been evacuated owing to the proximity of the flames.,

As always the villagers of Otívar have been, not only up all night, but out helping to tackle the flames – this is reminiscent of the fire back in the 90’s.

From 23.00h three fire trucks were out tackling the blaze, which was fuelled by high winds coming down the valley.

Having just spoken to Antonio Zamora in Bar Madera, he told us that the fire is under control but that it has affected the avocado and chiromoyo plantations between Cazulas and the village as well as towards the area where the paragliding enthusiasts habitually use as a landing site.
