Junior School Patched Up over Christmas Break

virgen de la antigua school, almuñécarAlmuñécar’s Virgen de la Antigua junior school has received “important improvements,” according to the Councillor for Maintenance.

Councillor José Manuel Fernández explained that 10,000 euros had been spent during the Christmas break on improving elements on the school grounds, such as in classrooms and bathrooms; the latter having been in a “quite deteriorated state.”

The playground used by primary pupils also received a spot of attention. Another task was knocking two classrooms into one.

Finally the wall running down the side on Calle Cañón was made higher as pupils made a habit of climbing over it and adults (parents) would sometimes disrupt activities going on below, even dropping cigarette butts onto the playground below.

The Virgen de la Antigua, with its 420 pupils and 27 teachers, is one of the oldest in Almuñécar and it shows – last year work was carried out to dry out and eliminate damp problems.
