On Friday the 19th a man drove his car through the main entrance of the Partido Popular’s Headquarters in Madrid. It had a homemade bomb on board.

“My intention was to strike against politicians because they’re all the same,” he offered by way of explanation to the police, adding “I could have just as easily targeted the PP as any other party.”

The man, who had driven down from a nearby mountainous area had originally intended to drive his car into the Spanish House of Congress, but as he didn’t know his way around Madrid, opted for the PP HQ as he drove past it by chance.

The 37-year-old man, who has the nickname of “El loco del pueblo” amongst his fellow villagers, had two butane gas bottles, a couple of sacks of Ammonia Nitrate and a timer.

As he ploughed into the foyer he narrowly missed a cleaning woman.

He was brought before the duty magistrate and is charged with attempted terrorism.
