Don’t miss Rowland Fade’s art exhibition at the Casa de la Cultural, Almuñécar, starting tomorrow. The inauguration will take place at 20.00h.

Rowland, who turned up in Almuñécar nearly 50 years ago in his mid 20’s, is like the Queen’s hairstyle; utterly immutable – probably because he’s got a self-portrait in an attic…

Not only is Rowland a Time Lord, but he is probably the best known and most original international artist to have ever settled here – and after almost half a century, we can safely say that he has ‘settled.’

Yes, if there ever was a foreigner that epitomizes, “I came out here on a long weekend and have lived here ever since,” it’s Rowland.

His collages are unique and well sort after from Spain to Zurich – Mari and I went to see one of his exhibitions in Frigiliana about six to eight years ago and she was well impressed both by the mildly-spoken man himself, as well as his collage works, comprising of, amongst other things, chicken bones and bras…

Rowland has always had an impact… only four months after he was born, Britain declared war on Nazi Germany…

Rowland is a genius, so get along to the Casa de la Cultura to see what the man has been up to for the last year.
