About 100 years ago I met a lovely chap called Chris Oliver, at El Faro bar in Almuñécar. He thrust two pieces of paper into my sweaty mitt and asked if I would be so kind as to advertise the Acompalia Summer Raffle in some way in our top of the range magazine.
Being a big fan of this brilliant charity, I impressed him by saying that not only would the said information go into our August magazine, that I would put the information onto our online version that very same day!
Impressed with my resolve and intent, Chris shook my hand and walked off to tell his wife, something along the lines of, “Damn decent bloke that Gazette editor chappy, and quite a good looker too!”
Unfortunately, Chris made the big mistake of not realising that he was dealing with a halfwit. No only did I fail to put the said information online, it didn’t even make an appearance in the August hard copy! Was it incompetence? The drink? Well, probably both of those things coupled with my age.
Anyway, if you haven’t heard about this raffle, then you are as daft as me, because there are tickets on sale all over the place! Including, El Faro, Cafe Ayer, Danny’s Bar, Los Laureles all in Almunecar, as well as Bar Alhambra in Velez de Benaudalla. As this is online, you may well live a very long way away… well I don’t care! Get in your car, or get a flight, and get down here and buy a couple of raffle tickets, they only cost one euro, so it’s hardly going to break the bank.
Joking aside, there are only a few charities that we at the Gazette support as much as we possibly can and Acompalia is one of those. So, please, dig deep, get yourself a ticket and if you see me in one of the above bars/restaurants when you are buying the said ticket, you have permission to hit me ‘upside the head’ with a rolled up Gazette… but not too hard.
This information will also be going on the Gazette Facebook page and Twitter… so don’t try and say you didn’t know! I’m watching you lot!
