Town Hall Responds on Blue Zones

Salobreña Vice Mayor, Mª Carmen Callejón, has responded to the local PP opposition criticism over blue-zoning hours during lunchtimes.

She pointed out that the actually timetable and locations of blue zones was agreed upon by the business sector, including the chiringuito owners. It was precisely the lunchtime period that was most closely looked at and agreed upon, she claims.

She also says that unlike other coastal towns, blue zoning on the Salobreña beachfront was only set up because of the existence of alternative free parking nearby; i.e. the return road running parallel to the beach.

For these reasons, she says, she cannot understand the PP’s criticism and suggests that they should approach their superiors in the Central Government concerning the reduction to the spending power of Spanish tourists…

SAL Beach obstacles OnLShe also dealt with a complaint launched by the IU party, which has demanded that the beaches have better access for people with mobility problems – they sent photographs of zebra crossings ending in pavement curbs instead of  lowered pavements.

She says that the Town Council had recently acquired an ‘amphibious chair’ (a wheelchair designed for getting people in and out of the water) and that there is now even a special shower for people with physical handicaps, without going into the presence of the Protección Civil personnel who are there to help those that require it.
