The Cycle Race to the Top of the Cabra

ALM Cycle race OnLJuan José Arquero, who is a Motril fireman, won the annual Almuñécar cycling race: Almuñécar Cota 1200. This is the third time that he has won the title.

The said race, by the way, is held in honor of the deceased Almuñécar cycling enthusiast, Miguel Ángel Almendros Caro.

Juan José managed to cycle up the 1,200-metre ascent in one hour, eleven minutes and 17 seconds.

But it was a close-run thing because he had to sprint the last part, which is downhill, from the mountain pass to Meson Los Prados, almost neck and neck with Francisco Robles Rodríguez (Bull Bikes DH Team CD) and Marcos Robles Fernández (Dr. Bikes Granada CD) who crossed the line one and three seconds later, respectively.

One Hundred and twenty competitors took part in the 35KM, mountain-road race, setting off from in front of the municipal football stadium, passing along the Paseo San Cristóbal before heading for San Sebastian at the base of the climb.

Other categories, such as the Cadetes, Féminas and Veteranos had their finishing line further down, at the Lentejí cross roads.
