The Torrox Police Station is investigating two policemen over fines that they had placed on parked cars. Apparently, that is not their job.

The two policemen; the head of the barrio police and a policeman belonging to that unit, put fines on 16 cars on the 1st of May. The cars were parked in the Los Llanos, Venta Espinosa and Calle Cáceres areas.

Policía de Barrio are beat policemen (foot patrol) who have been assigned by the Torrox Police Station to carry out tasks concerning domestic animal use, hawking (street sellers) and litter control. Many other aspects of normal police work are not included.

During their patrol on that day they did not log any incidents concerned with these allotted tasks… but they did come back with 16 parking fines.

The Mayor of Torrox, Francisco Muñoz, explained: “The Policía de Barrio have the task of carrying out preventative rolls, which have not been executed by the policemen, [thus] disobeying orders from their superiors. At no time were they given instructions to carry out traffic control on that Thursday.”

Consequently, the Mayor has ‘invited’ them to explain themselves.

This is the second such incident, as a similar one occurred on the 1st of April along Avenida de América in the Urbanización Centro Internacional, Torrox Costa.
