The Annual Spring clean up of the seabed off the Carchuna-Calahonda beaches takes place this weekend.
The diving club, Dardanus and Camping Don Cactus are collaborating with the municipal authorities to make it happen. The idea is to promote awareness of how important it is to keep the beaches and seabed free from rubbish; not just for esthetic reasons but for the health of the seabed.
The First Councillor for Carchuna-Calahonda, Concepción Abarca presented the project before the press, accompanied by Julia Crespo, who runs the diving club and Isabel Moral, who represented Camping Don Cactus.
Saturday will see activities for children in front of the campsite, focused on keeping the environment clean. Then on Sunday, activities will be transferred to the embarcadero (where the boats are drawn up onto the beach) where around 50 divers will clean up the seabed there.
Isabel Moral from Don Cactus said that the activities would include diving baptisms in the site’s swimming pool, as well as face-painting workshops, kayaks, archery and an inflatable kiddies’ castle.
The Manager of the diving school, Julia Crespo, pointed out that each Spring when this event comes around, less and less rubbish is found on the seabed, which is very positive.
Sounds like a fun weekend for all the family.
