Blue Zone Prices Considered Too Expensive

AXA blue zone OnLThe business sectors of Vélez and Torre del Mar are opposing the parking fees for the proposed Blue Zones.

The fact is that over several decades of much paper shuffling Vélez-Málaga and Torre del Mar were going to join the rest of the seaside towns by adopting Blue Zone parking areas.

However, the Asociación de Comerciantes de Torre del Mar (ACET) as well as the Vélez-Málaga one (ACEV) consider the 50c/30 minutes and €1/60 minutes charge as excessive.

“The Blue Zones are fundamental for stimulating commerce in Torre del Mar, but to charge more than 30 céntimos for half an hour is not reasonable. The prices published in the Official Provincial Gazette (BOP) seem expensive to us,” explained the Chairman of ACET, Manuel Frutos.

The conservative municipal administration of Torre del Mar was hoping to implant a functioning blue zoning consisting of 160 spaces for Semana Santa, which did not materialize. The chosen areas were: Calle Princesa, Calle San Martín, Plaza Axarquía and the Mercado de Mayoristas).

There were to be a further 180 spaces in Vélez-Málaga (Calle Canalejas, Calle Reñidero, Paseo Nuevo, el Pozancón and next to Calle Camino Viejo de Málaga).
