Almuñécar School of Music to be Completed

ALM School of Music OnLThe seemingly still-born municipal school of music sits just across from the Almuñécar medical centre and has spent several years as little more than a shell.

Now, announced the Town Hall, the building is to be completed, which will cost around a million euros.

It was under Mayor Benavides in 2010 that the construction was begun, using Plan-E funding, with an estimated budget of 800,000 euros, but it seems that somebody, somewhere, got the calculations wrong and it would cost a lot more than the funds to hand, so there it remained, bare-brick walls and gaping holes for non existent window frames.

The School of Music and Dance has remained, in the meantime, on the top floor of the municipal market; a location that is better than nothing but wholly insufficient for the purpose.

The present Mayor, Trinidad Herrera, pointed out that the uncompleted structure on the P-4 has problems with damp, which will make the operation more expensive, but she is confident that the Municipal School of Music and Dance can and will be completed.

The plan is to put the completion project up for bidding with an eye to work commencing in July, taking about six months to complete.

The most positive thing about the installations is that all those Semana Santa brass bands will be having their merciless band practices in its soundproofed cellar… Hallelujah!
