The proximity of Mobile-telephone aerials has always caused social turbulence and the Baja del Mar one in Almuñécar is no exception.
In a 2007 plenary meeting of the Town Council a motion was passed to have this particular mobile-telephone aerial taken down… but nothing happened. Six years were to pass before on the 18th of February, 2013, the Regional High Court backed a provincial law court’s verdict and ordered Telefónica Móviles España S.A, to remove the apparatus.
However, Teléfonica has simply stalled, so the local branch of the IU has now called upon the Town Hall itself to dismantle the aerial to avoid further delays.
Under Spanish law you can’t have one of these aerials within 500 metres of an urban area, and in the case of Calle Baja del Mar, which is a town-centre street, this law has obviously been transgressed.
Everybody wants mobile coverage but nobody wants a mobile-telephone aerial anywhere near their homes.
