Salobreña Cemetery Scandal

SAL-Cementery-02bwThe Public Prosecutor for Granada is recommending a 5-year, 6-month jail sentence for a town-hall assistant clerk concerning dealings with the municipal cemetery. He also recommends the same quantity of time being barred from holding public employment and a 7,560-euro fine.

The said man is charged with charging for the use of burial niches but pocketing the money himself, as well as forging official documents.

Amongst other illicit acts, in April 2008 he reportedly issued an official receipt, complete with the Town Hall stamp for 737 euros to a woman for the rent of a funeral niche – the money never reached the municipal coffers. He is accused of repeating the process in June in the same year for 755 euros and then in September 2009 for 800 euros.
