Jammed Minibus Blocks Road

AND Minibus Jammed OnLThe streets across from the Alhambra monument are narrow and winding so that only a minibus can be used on its bus route but miscalculations occur.

The Carril de San Agustin (lower Albaicín) is narrow, steep, and hemmed in by unforgiving stonework, so when the minibus became firmly jammed between two walls, it resulted in the traffic around that part of the city being completely gridlocked for over two hours on the evening of the 28th of last month.

The tourists were able to get out, but in order to get past the stricken vehicle they had to ‘tightrope’ down a low wall on the roadside with a two-metre drop on the other, as did any pedestrians using the lane.

What caused the minibus to become jammed was that the suspension went on one side, causing the bus to lean over onto the high wall.

The Associación del Bajo Albayzín pointed out that the problem of people having to walk along the top of a wall is not restricted to vehicles becoming jammed but that pedestrians have to get up onto the wall every time they encounter  a vehicle.

Anyway, the minibus, with one side looking much the worse for wear, was finally extracted around midnight.
