In the latest Plenary Meeting of the Almuñécar Town Council the governing party (PP) approved the motion on the Mercado underground parking. They were backed by the IU and the ex-PA councillors Luis Aragón and Olga Ruano. The PSOE abstained, which allowed the motion to be carried.

The move means that the original lease contract with Hermanos Garcia has been annulled, despite an offer by the company to recommence the reinforcing work in the parking and have it opened and operating for next summer.

The combined CA/PA opposition under Juan Carlos Benavides was firmly against the motion which they consider will lead to the market’s demolition.
