La Herradura Fire Scare

A small brush fire claimed 1,500 square metres of vegetation in area of La Herradura known as La Loma, up from the main entrance to the village.

The fire broke out around mid morning today and was declared as extinguished around 15.00h, explained the First Councillor for La Herradura and Councillor for Citizen Safety, Juan José Ruiz Joya.

Apart from the Almuñécar fire service, the Protección Civil, Policía Local and Guardia Civil also participated, together with a helicopter and foot units from Infoca. The aircraft, was using an under-slung bucket device known as a Bambi,  and was decisive in controlling the fire.

The affected area is covered in bush and dry grass – or was – which is why Infoca was called in to prevent it extending to farmland as well as nearby dwellings.
