Jayena in Mourning

Four members of the same family in Jayena lost their lives in a car accident on the A-92. The stretch where it occurred is notorious for accidents.

The Mayor of Jayena, Antonio Navas, declared three days of official mourning during an extraordinary plenary meeting of the Town Council this morning, as the family is very well known and liked – the woman, Vicenta, worked in the Town Hall for years. The victims were Vicenta, Santiago, Sandra and Encarna.

“This is the hardest plenary meeting that I have ever had to preside over,” said the Mayor, adding, “We shall never forget this family.”

The Mayor and the Vice-Chairman of the Provincial Council both expressed their wish for a prompt recover to the only surviving member of the family, the daughter, Ana.

The accident occurred just before 19.00h yesterday evening within the municipal boundaries of Diezma on the A-92 when the car left the road, killing four and leaving the fifth occupant seriously injured. The reasons for the accident are still unknown. One of the drivers who witnessed the accident reported that the car had leaped across the central division before leaving the autovia completely.

Whatever the case, the car was a total wreck and firemen where needed to extract the bodies.

The writer of this article, a resident of Jayena, would like to express her personal condolences.
