Riverbeds Cleared of Vegetation

The Almuñécar Town Hall has had the riverbeds cleared of vegetation, which not only gives the town a cleaner image, but also reduces damage caused during summer flash floods.

The three riverbeds in question are Río Verde, Río Seco and Río Jate, but we’re only talking about the stretches that run through the towns (Verde/Seco) or alongside (Jate).

Thanks to the prolonged winter and spring rains, the riverbeds had not only sprouted high weeds, but even small bushes, all of which would have ended up on the beaches after a flash flood.
