The Almuñécar Town Hall has placed a request before the Provincial Delegate for the Junta for the infant classrooms in the C.P. Noria to be used by the pupils of the Centro Infantil, Los Marinos. At present, these classrooms in the Noria are not in use.
At present the infant centre in Los Marinos is situated on the second floor of the Capilla de la Virgen del Carmen, which has been ceded for this purpose by the Parish Church, La Encarnación.
It should be pointed out that schooling for 0-to-3-year olds is really the responsibility of the Provincial Education Board but owing to an accord with the Town Hall the cost of schooling there is covered by a grant.
Councillor for Social Welfare, María del Carmen Reinoso, points out that although the Los Marinos centre functions on an official level, despite building work carried out there, the installations have their defects and inadequacies. To put them right will cost money that simply is not available. The centre, for example, has no administrative room. Besides that, any modification requires permission from the Church, who own the building.
She also points out that Los Marinos is very close to the La Noria junior school, which has four classrooms fully adapted to the teaching needs of 3-to-5-year olds, however, only two are in use.
The two that aren’t have toilets integrated with the classrooms, as well as outside space for break times; something that Los Marinos does not.
Last but not least, up until now when children move on from Los Marinos they go automatically to La Noria, anyway, because of its proximity.
Makes sense!
