The II Festival de Parapente de Almuñécar on Sunday 30th turned out well with around a hundred enthusiasts from several European countries taking part, thanks, as well, to the excellent weather.
The meet, which was organized by the Club Parapente Costa a Tropical, with the support of the Municipal Sports Board, used the Loma del Gato as the launch site for the day with participants landing down on Velilla Beach, at the Tesorillo end.
There was one negative moment during the day when one participant hit a palm tree and then had the added misfortune of banging his head against a large stone below – luckily he was wearing a helmet and the emergency services attended to him quickly.
The Councillor for Sport, Luis Aragón, said, “More and more European clubs are choosing our township to practice this sport, as well as it becoming more popular amongst younger Almuñequeros.” He also added that it was good for the area’s hotels.
The day ended with handing over of trophies at the Cafeteria Italiana by the said councillor and the owner of Fly Park Almuñécar.
