Crackdown on Rubbish

The Salobreña Town Hall has sent out ultimatums to 30 owners of empty building plots and/or derelict buildings around the town. The message is clear: you tidy them up, or we will, and then we’ll send you the bill.

The reasons are obvious; such places are breeding grounds for vermin and are also an ugly stain on the generally picturesque image of the town. But this is not just an initiative of the municipal administration, but a reaction provoked by numerous complaints received from irritated locals.

This ‘blitz’ is also part of a general drive to spruce up the parks and gardens of Salobreña and its  municipal annexes of Lobres and La Caleta.

As far as houses go, the drive is centred around the old town and includes, besides derelict buildings, those houses that have facades in a state of disrepair. It might be worth considering that in the latter’s case, the owners might not be in a financial position to spend such money at the moment, perhaps?

The owners of empty building plots have been given between 10 and 30 days to have them cleared up, and according to the Councillor of Urban Planning, most have reacted with alacrity.
