(Northern Granada) Alfacar, just outside Granada, has just held the IX Encuentro Internacional de Tiro con Arco, or in other words, the international archery championships – within the world archery fraternity, Alfacar is most definitely on the map!
Anybody out hiking on that weekend would have been surprised to come across lions, zebras, buffalo, elephants and antelope… but in wood cut outs, that is, because this championship is a Bosque-3-D type. Competitors have to work their way through 20 such targets, all representing animals typical to the African Savana, albeit dotted across the Sierra de Alfacar, of course.
The CTA Alfacar club has two world-level, sub-champions amongst their ranks, 2nd and 3rd places in the last European-wide championships and a whole host of Spanish national championships.
So, anybody out there that is hankering after a bit of archery-club activity, get in contact with the Alfacar club!
