Citizen Advice Bureau Deficiencies

At the moment, the Almunecar Town Hall has an Atención a Los Consumidores y Usuarias service, thanks to an agreement with the Unión de Consumidores de Granada (UCA). This service is basically a citizens’ Advice Bureau; i.e., somewhere where people can obtain information concerning their rights as consumers and lodge complaints against abuses.

Unfortunately, the service only operates three days a months (Thursdays) and only by prior appointment. In the consideration of the Izquierda Unida political party this arrangement is insufficient, “owing to the high demand for this service, above all in the summer when the population increases dramatically, forcing consumers to wait long periods of time for their complaints to be attended to.”

The Spokesman for this political party gives as an example a woman who had to wait three weeks for her complaint concerning a hotel; she applied on the 18th of July but had to wait until the 11th of August to be attended.

The IU considers that Almunecar needs a daily service, or at least more extended public opening times so that citizens can enquire as to their rights, receive assistance and lodge official complaints. For this reason the IU has written a formal letter to the Mayoress, Trinidad Herrera, asking her to have the agreement signed between the Town Hall and the UCA modified, or to supply a member of the the municipal staff for this task.

In the meantime, if you have an urgent matter to discuss with the citizens’ advice bureau and would prefer to contact the provincial offices directly, you can do so here:
