The Guardia Civil arrested a 19-year-old man after he brought his 18-year-old girlfriend to the emergency department of a hospital, already dead from a severe beating.

The couple from Otura, Granada, who both worked in a bar belonging to her father, had been going out together for a little over two years.

At first, the self-confessed killer claimed that they had been mugged by a gang, who had set about them with clubs, but whereas he only had scratches on his face and arms, her face was completely disfigured… she was also dead. The Guardia Civil were suspicious and pressed the suspect during most of the night at their headquarters in Granada and in the early morning he confessed to having kicked and punched her viciously, resulting in her fatal injuries.

Monica Carrion was the third death from domestic violence this year in the province and the 34th in the whole of Spain… and we’re only in the 29th week of the year, meaning more than one woman dies every week from this kind of violence, but even so, when a 19-year-old kid confesses to kicking and punching his 18-year-old girlfriend to death, the nation is still shocked despite the figures.
