The conservative PP party in Motril not only managed to retain the Mayor’s office, but even increased their council seats by one to give them an absolute majority of 13 seats.
The PP under Carlos Rojas increased their voting percentage from 41% to 45% of all the votes cast, leaving the PSOE far behind with 19% only, compared to the 34% they obtained in the elections of 2007.
Without doubt, the Rubiales departure, together with his followers, took its toll (Rubiales CA took 6% of the votes, gaining him two seats) but that doesn’t account for the 4-seat drop.
Here are the seats gained:
2011: PP 13, PSOE 5, PA-EP.And 3, IULV-CA 2, C.And 2
2007: PP 12, PSOE 9, PA-EP.And 2, IULV-CA 2.
Sr Rojas victory mirrored the nationwide, landslide victory of the PP, causing a crushing defeat for the PSOE socialists.
Rojas rides on a wave of euphoria and 4-year mandate without needing the votes of allies to push whatever he deems fit through the town council
Enhorabuena, Sr Rojas
