The next important thing, also involving the International Club (who co-sponsor the event) is the return of the Eco Rastro; the open market held in the Parque de las Fuentes. After its summer break, the market re-opens on October 2nd, and will be held on the first Saturday of each month until further notice.
A resounding success, and an outstanding example of the International community working together with municipal council for the good of all, the market has been a result for everybody, including local merchants, who benefit from the increase in foot traffic in town.
However, I do have to report that the name has been changed; henceforth, the official title will be El Encuentro Eco-Cultural. Well, that’s just exactly what I was taught as a young marketing cub. Launch something, make it an outstanding success – and then re-brand it (change the name). Duh! It must have something to do with local politics (the co-sponsors are the Ayuntamiento). Personally, I think they did it to prevent me writing more Rumble at the Rastro stories. I guess I’ll just have to wait until the USA has a falling-out with Tibet. Then I can write one I’ve been saving up – Obama-Lama-Ding-Dong. Or perhaps I’ll just keep on calling it the Rastro. That should annoy a sufficient number of people. Mmmmmm! Oh, yes. The Rastro it shall continue in these hallowed columns. Lovely! If there’s anybody who likes to ***** off the Establishment more than I, it’s the Ed. Bless!
