No Licence for Disco

Good news for the long-suffering neighbours of the Aquatropic water park – a licence for the discotheque has been refused. And good news for the users of the waterpark as the licence for the installations has been granted for a further 15 years.

Without doubt, Aqua Noche was one of the most popular late-night/early-morning hot spots of the Almuñécar night-life scene. However, from the point of view of anybody living above it on the hillside, or those living along El Paseo de Reina Sofía, it was a 24 hour nightmare, with squeals and music all day long from the pools and slides, and then blaring music until dawn. People could put up with the first, but the second was just too much.

The licence holder has to deposit 46,000 euros with Costas for the use of ‘public dominion’- the reclaimed land on which the installations sit (33,610 sq/m) belongs to Madrid, not the Town Hall.

Stop Press: An IU press communique claims that the Town Hall is lying through its teeth and that the water park has been opened without a licence from Costas and not even with official authorisation from the Town Hall itself
