Danish Corner January

Mette Online2Local Danish Artist, Lilli Neigaard, will be showcasing her artwork at Café Rosa in Almuñécar from Sunday, Jan. 3rd until Sunday, Jan. 31st 2010 (both days included).

This creative and energetic lady was born in Ikast, Denmark and has been drawing and painting as long as she can remember. Over the years she had developed her talent and has exhibited her artwork throughout banks and town halls in Denmark.

She and her husband spend the winter months in Almuñécar and it didn’t take long for her to be discovered here either.

The Los Nórdicos association, which often stages exhibitions here, invited her to participate and, as a result, her work has been displayed at two exhibitions at the Casa de la Cultura. Café Rosa has also featured her paintings on their walls numerous times in the past. January doesn’t have to be such a gloomy month after all when we have her beautiful and colourful artwork to go and admire.

Another date to remember is Friday, Jan. 8th when the next WomenWorks networking meeting will take place at The Hotel Almijara in La Herradura. The main agenda for the meeting will be for members to discuss how they want WomenWorks to proceed in 2010.

I spoke with fellow Danish-blooded Glenne Ladegaard (one of the three founders) at the last meeting on Dec. 4th where we attended the Workshop on Happiness run by Dr. Gabriella Kortsch. Glenne told me that the WomenWorks community is growing and there are now over 85 members. They are really looking forward to seeing regular as well as new faces at the WomenWorks networking events whose purpose is ongoing sharing, learning, fun and laughter with brilliant like-minded women! You can join WomenWorks on their website www.WomenWorks.ning.com and keep yourself informed of upcoming meetings, events and workshops. WomenWorks is a place where bright, energetic women with a wide variety of hard-earned wisdom have joined forces to help each other succeed in their goals.

Speaking of goals, New Year’s resolutions come to mind. Getting healthy is on many people’s list. One of mine is to attend Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga once a week because it gives me a great sense of wellbeing. I want to share this information with you because not many people know that it is available here in Almuñécar.

It’s a form of yoga that all ages and levels, male or female can do. It is a combination of postures, breathing, relaxation and meditation. No flexibility is required! So if you are like me and want to kick-start the New Year by feeling fantastic, classes start Thurs. Jan. 7th at 10:00 am on the first floor of the Municipal swimming pool.

Last but not least, I want to wish everyone in the Danish community and all the Seaside Gazette readers a Happy New Year! If you want to contact me about future events or stories, my e-mail is danish@seasidegazette.es
