Visiting the De Tropen showroom yesterday made me seriously wish I owned my own home here so I could decorate it with their furniture pieces. Their selection of indoor and outdoor furniture is absolutely beautiful and with a large collection to choose from. You can find models in rustic-, colonial- or modern styles. Their garden furniture comes in a variety of materials such as aluminium, synthetic or polythene fibres and teak. All their indoor furniture is made of massive teak.
I had the pleasure of meeting the Dutch owner Marcel Kluijtmans while I was there. He told me he opened De Tropen in June 2008 but was no stranger to the business as he has worked in the industry for 15 years. De Tropen is both a wholesaler and retailer and imports their extensive selection of furniture and home decoration in full container loads from such exotic and far-away places as Vietnam, Indonesia and China. Their vast collection ranges from pieces in the middle to higher-end price range to practical and less expensive pieces. It was interesting to note that they sell designer models at a fraction of the original price. Marcel also collaborates with interior designers who can assist his clients should they wish this service.
De Tropen currently has a 20% sale on all indoor furniture until the end of November, so don’t miss out. They also have an End of Summer sale with all their outdoor furniture listed at almost half price. This sale will run until the last items are gone, so be sure to get there before everything is sold out. They want to clear the items to get ready for a new container load that arrives in January containing products for the 2010 season. A visit to their 3.000m² exhibition showroom (which will be expanded to double the size next year) is well worth a visit.
