Hispano-Arab Simposium

ALM SimposiumThe yearly cultural encounter between the Middle East and Spain (V Simposium de Encuentros Hispano-Arabes), took place in Almuñécar between the 22nd and 24th of October, including a celebration to mark the 25th anniversary of the placing of the Abderramán statue in the square that bears its name (right next to the cross on the rock).
This year the symposium was entitled: El Mediterraneo en el siglo XVI: Españoles, Otomanos y Berberiscos. Talks were given by writers, politicians and historians from Turkey, Morocco and Algeria, as well as from different parts of Spain.
This year, the XVII Encuentro Hispano-Arabe (V Simposium) counted on the collaboration of the Syrian, Turkish and Algerian Embassies. Amongst the lectures given was one on the shipwrecking of the Amada in 1562 in the bay of La Herradura by Tomás Hérnandez, based on the poem written by one of the survivors of the maritime disaster.
Finally – and I have a photo for this; what I don’t have is room –the mini bazaar that was set up in the marquee in Plaza Kuwait, (where the Aquarium is) attracted a lot of visitors – whether they turned out to be customers or not, I can’t say.
