Now for the good news… and yes, we do actually have some good news to report this month. The new section of motorway, newly opened and hopefully ridding us of that dreadful drudge of a drive to Almuñécar, only to start queuing just after the tunnel, has been covered enough with the Front Page and accompanying article, skilfully penned by our crusty (sorry, that should be trusty) Editor.
The other stories in our ‘good news section’ this month are much more important than some stuffy politicians, puffing themselves up as though they had actually physically built a road themselves…. No, this is real family viewing type material.
Firstly, it was a real pleasure to cover the story of Elliot’s first birthday party on the beach in front of The Anchor. All regular readers and locals to La Herradura will know the story of Katie’s terrible illness during her pregnancy, and yet, against all the odds, she produced the most perfect little boy, and even whilst trying to regain full health herself, still remains so obviously dedicated to the little lad, as do the family as a whole.
They have triumphed against the greatest adversity imaginable in keeping The Anchor open and as popular as ever. The hours put in by Jonathan, Cliff and Jean to maintain the business and look after Katie and Elliott are just incredible, and rarely mentioned. In fact, the family has only ever imparted to me, how grateful they all are for the help and assistance received from friends and the local community.
However, Tuesday 28th of July belonged to the little bruiser known as Elliott, who sat with his Mum in the shade on the beach, a piece of cake in each hand, and surrounded by local parents, other toddlers, friends and family. It was, thankfully, just a typical birthday party and the star of the show was obviously enjoying all the attention. I’ll be there next year, annoying everyone with my camera, and will be expecting to get a few shots of Elliot and Katie taking a dip together on his second birthday.
