Cruises Begin

Let the cruise begin! April saw the official start of the cruise season for Motril with the arrival of Funchal, a Portuguese liner. 250 passengers were on board and of those, 80 made the trip to Granada or Nerja and the other 170 visited Motril. Transport was contracted by the port authorities and provided by Motril Port, who are concocting plans to start offering passengers all kinds of activities over the coming months.
So watch out for hoards of strollers in plimsolls parading through town as 18 more cruise ships are expected to dock from now until November. Amongst whom we’ll be greeting the likes of SeaCloud, Black Prince, Spirit of Adventure and Corinthian.
Incidentally, Funchal was named after the capital city of the island of Madeira which, in turn, was named after the fennel that grows abundantly there (funchal in Portuguese).
