After a long wait, La Herradura finally has its very own taxi rank! And it appears that it is already being put to good use. It is located directly outside the Municipal Market at the bottom of Av. Prieto Moreno at the junction with Paseo de Andres Segovia.
“This new rank will fulfil the need of a service that has long since been requested by residents and business people in the area.” said the Mayor, Juan Carlos Benavides. For several years now, just one driver has been trying to cover the taxi needs of the whole village, “however, thanks to a joint initiative between the Town Hall Department for La Herradura, Tráfico, and the taxi company, the village is now covered by four taxis, and local people now have the same cover as afforded other people living in the municipality,” the Mayor continued.
The four taxis will be working rotating shifts, with one of the main benefits being that fares will be charged starting from the rank, as opposed to calling a taxi from Almuñécar, which has historically incurred the charge to cover the trip between the two towns.
A further benefit is that taxis can be requested through the Radio-Taxi number 958 63 00 17, and they will automatically despatch a local car, with no extra charges.
In conclusion, the Mayor thanked everyone involved in the setting up of the service, “With the opening of this new rank, we have shown how we can react to strong local demand, and at the same time move forward in the empowerment of La Herradura as a tourist centre.”
