Four teenagers have been sentenced for beating a cat to death with a stick and then hanging it in front of  the door of the woman who fed it. This took place in September 2024 in Aldeire.

Proud of their prowess, they uploaded it all onto social media, which was their undoing, because they have stood trial in Granada in a juvenile court and sentenced to paying 2,500 euros in compensation to the woman and 70 hours each of community service. 

The four had agreed to stalk the cat, trapping it and then hitting it until they caved its skull in.

Now, before you think that this involves teenage boys, there were also girls involved. In fact it was a girl who filmed them as the held the dead cat up by its tail making victory signs with their fingers. The girl gave the photo a caption, “Out hunting with (name of one of them).” 

One of these boys also recorded a video and posted it on social media. The post spread across Instagram and other platforms. Subsequently, the same teenagers tied the animal by its rear left leg and hung it from the upstairs balcony so it dangled in front of the front door.

Obviously the woman was very upset, suffering an anxiety attack. She was not alone in feeling outrage as news spread around the village

The Asociación Happy Cats Spain Rescue took charge of the animal handing its remains over to a vet for an autopsy, which cost 300 euros, but was a necessary document when they reported the incident to the Guardia Civil.

The Head of the association said, “Those responsible for this murder, shattered Samurai’s skull, then they played with the animal’s body laughing, and ended up hanging it up. The identity of those responsible for these acts is known because they took photos with the cat’s body and the images are circulating on social networks, but they are minors,” adding, “This act of cruelty is not only unacceptable, but it also reflects a serious lack of respect for animal life and the basic principles of coexistence.”
