Torrenueva Costa Paseo Repaired

Torrenueva Costa has officially completed the restoration of the section of the Rambla Villanueva where it runs under the seafront paseo.

The repair project was initially expected to be finished by late December or mid-January, but winter gales and heavy rains at the start of the year caused a delay:

“The bad weather prevented us from finishing sooner, but finally, today the last layer of asphalt is being laid and the paseo is completely finished,” explained Mayor Lara.

For years, the Town Council had been warning about the deterioration of the underground structure, specifically, the vaulted section of the final stretch of the rambla which runs through the town and into the sea.

The Junta de Andalucía used a budget of over 600,000 euros, setting an initial, 3-month execution period. The main goal was to repair and reinforce the internal structure of the channel, replacing damaged beams that were severely deteriorated and posed a significant risk.

“The entire vaulted area at the mouth was in poor condition,” explained the Mayor, adding that there were 78, concrete support beams in a very deteriorated state (rusted reinforcement) in the final section which could have collapsed at any time. A combination of age and salt in the sea spray had done their work.
