A woman in her mid 40s lost her life in Sayalonga on Wednesday, trying to help her dog after it fell into Río Turvilla.

This section of the river where she entered has steep banks and the rainfall had increased the strength of the current considerably.

The victim, 45-year-old resident of Sayalonga, Carolina, had been out walking with her partner and their two dogs, when tragedy struck.

Her body was found on Friday 1,000 metres further down the riverbank from where she entered to save her dog. The dog survived its ordeal but Carolina didn’t.
