Eviction Ends in Blood

An 80-year-old, German man, shot himself on Tuesday when he was about to be evicted from his home.

This incident occurred in Torremolinos on Calle Murillo Bracho (near the Centro Cultural Pablo Ruiz Picasso) where the man had been living these past 40 years.

Apparently, he had been a police officer in Germany before retiring and had been widowed only months before. He has adult children.

According to neighbours, the man had been having problems meeting payments, although it is not clear whether this was rent payments or a mortgage.

It was near noon when officers from the Policía Local, who were accompanying a court official, arrived outside to evict him. This was when he attempted to end his life with a gunshot to the head.

Paramedics were rushed to the scene to attend to the man before taking him to the general hospital in Málaga. The extent of his injuries has not been made known.
