Gruesome Mistake

It's summer, kids jump into ponds, swimming pools, off rocks into the sea and into rivers, or are thrown in by their friends; it's a game but one that ended in an amputated arm.

The incident took place yesterday in the village of Uceda (Guadalajara) which as a population of 3,300 inhabitants. There’s a river pool there known as the Poza Fantasma within the Urbanización de Carquiz.

The group of friends had decided to throw one of their number into the river pool but in an attempt to stop himself entering the water, he grabbed hold of a rope (tarzan swing) but somehow it wrapped around his arm and his own weight amputed part of it.

The 14-year old struggled out of the water by himself (his friends were too dazed) and was rushed to hospital whilst fire personnel (who have divers) from Azuqueca de Henares searched under the surface for the severed member, which they found and took to the hospital, as it is hoped that it can be reattached.

Hospital Universitario de Burgos where the boy was taken, has specialised in this kind of surgical operation, since 1991 and is the best in Spain.
