Salobreña's Romería del Sur (Virgen del Rosario) was back after a 3-year pause owing to Covid, marking the end of the Fiestas Patronales 2022.
Around 30 floats and carriages took part, adding colour and music to the event, with the fiestas ending with the traditional firework display.
Of course, there was also the religious ceremony and the Concurso de Carrozas (float competition), which was won by La Blanca Paloma, whilst the Second Prize went to Los Cortieros and the Third Prize went to Los Fiesteros.
The winners are used to winning as it was sponsored by Restaurante Aguas Verdes, who opted for the typical Andalusian-house design.
The runner-up’s float was created by a team of 30 people, working on a design that radiated alergría (joy).
The Fiesteros were not exactly content because the First Prize had gone to an entrant who had won on previous occasions – ¡por algo será! The organisers pointed out that they had not contravened any competition rules, therefore the choice had been completely legitimate.
The Councillor for Fiestas, Gabriel Alonso, considered that the aim of the fiestas; i.e, for everybody to have a good time, had been achieved, yet he said that he was quite happy to receive suggestions for next year’s Romería.
