A man was unfortunate enough to be struck by falling masonry from a fascade in Granada, which required his immediate hospitalisation.
The 69-year-old man had been walking along Calle Sócrates around 11.00h in the centre of Granada when a piece of the cornice off a block of flats, six floors up, became detached and struck him.
As soon as the emergency, call centre received an alert from a passerby, who had witnessed the incident, they despatched an ambulance and fire service, as well as police officers.
According to police sources, the man received a nasty head injury as well as cuts to other parts of his body.
The fire service used their extending ladder to make sure that the rest of the fascade was not in danger of coming loose and the police cordoned off the pavement under the building, just in case, but the street was soon reopened to normal traffic.
There is no further information on the victim’s condition.
