An 11-year-old girl drowned yesterday in a private swimming pool at her home on the Camino de los Marinos of Almuñécar. The incident occurred around 20.00h.

In the house at the time was her family and a group of friends. Suddenly somebody noticed that the girl, who knew how to swim, was motionless at the bottom of the pool. They immediately pulled her out and phoned 112.

An ambulance was soon there and the paramedics attempted to revive the girl for about two hours. According to report she initially responded to CPR but in the end they could not save her.

The coroner gave permission for the body of the child to be moved and taken for an autopsy, which confirmed the cause of death as drowning. It also ruled out the possibility of a heart failure.
