The emergency services were alerted around 17.40h by a beachgoer to say that a man was drowning and that other bathers were trying to bring him back to the beach.
An ambulance with paramedics on board was soon at the scene and CPR was applied to the 31-year-old holidaymaker but to no avail.
The said beach has a lifeguard, who was on duty at at the time of the incident and a green flag was flying, meaning that it was safe to bathe.
