International Piano Competition

ALM Piano ConcertAlmuñécar will be holding the I Concurso Internacional de Piano in February; taking advantage of a month when there is little on in the rest of the province.

The piano competition will run from the 12th to the 15th in the auditorium in the Casa de la Cultura.

It will be organised jointly by the  Center Músic Management S L and the Municipal Board of Culture and sponsored by Pianos Francis Granada.

The judging panel with have important names on a national and international level such as: Francisco Escoda, Alfonso Carrate, María Mwrawska, Alejandro Algarra and Emmanuel Ferrer-Laloe.

The competition starts with an elimination stage where competitors will have to perform J.S. Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier, BWV 846–893, which is a collection of two sets of preludes and fugues in all 24 major and minor keys.

They can also choose between Chopin’s Étude Op. 25, No. 10; Rachmaninoff’s Études-Tableaux, Op. 33; Scriabin’s Étude in D-sharp minor, Op. 8, No. 12; List’s Transcendental Études S.139 and one or more works of their own choosing.

Those that get through to the final stage will have to deliver a recital of their own chosing that can come from Baroque, Classical or Romantic (including and up to the present day). Each performance must last between 30 and 60 minutes.

Just before the judges deliver their verdict, concert pianist Francisco Escoda will perform the Piano Concerto No. 1 (Chopin), accompanied by the Orquesta Sinfónica Ciudad Atarfe.
