The Costa Tropical seems to have escaped the heavy rains, but that was not the case on the east coast of Spain or in the province of Málaga.
It was in the town of Campillos (Antequera) that a fireman lost his life in the floods. His body was finally located at 10.00h yesterday morning some six kilometres from the point where he was last seen after a search lasting all through the night.
The fire engine carrying a full crew ran into difficulties and most of the crew managed to get onto the roof, but not the 47-year-old fireman, José Gil Gutiérrez, who lost his grip and was swept away.
The victim leaves behind a wife and two young children. The town of Antequera is holding three days of mourning.
