The summer 24-hour football tournament, aptly named The 24 Hours, has not been a feature in Almuñécar for many years, however, this year it was reinstated into the summer schedule and was duly won by Alpujarra FS.
As the name suggests, the tournament is 24 hours of continuous football, with the only rest for players being taken between games.
An exciting final between Alpujarra FS and Big Bang Ocean Club ended in a 2-2 draw, so the game went to a penalty shootout which Alpujarra FS won 1-3.
Alpujarra FS started the tournament with an emphatic 13-1 win against GDLC and continued their good form through to the final. Big Bang Ocean Club similarly breezed through their early phases to reach the final.
Captain, Frederico Camacho, collected the trophy which was donated by the Municipal Sports Board, as well as 400 euros in cash! Even the runners-up, Big Bang Ocean Club, walked away with a trophy and a, not to be sniffed at, 200 euros in beer money.
The tournament was well attended at the José María García Sports Arena and was declared a resounding success that will hopefully put this tournament back on the summer agenda permanently.
Enhorabuena, Apujarra FS!
