An assistant nurse at the Hospital Príncipe de Asturias in Alcalá de Henares (Madrid) has been arrested, suspected of the murder of an 86-year-old patient.

Beatriz L. D. (37) had been under surveillance ever since another elderly patient had died in similar circumstances whilst the nurse was on night duty.

An autopsy of this latest victim uncovered air in her heart; somebody had injected air into her veins. The woman was to be sent home the next day, but died during the night.

The police and hospital authorities are trawling back through the records of other sudden deaths on the wards which coincided with the suspect being on duty.
