A total of 48 children were affected by chlorine intoxication at a summer-camp swimming pool (El Pinatar – Gualaba) in the province of Barcelona.
The children, aged between 11 and 5-years old, were treated on the spot, except for 17 of their number who were taken to hospitals in Sabadell, Granollers and Mollet, all of which are in the same province.
The Mossos d’Esquadra received a call on Wednesday the 19th at 19.00h to say what had happened and eight ambulance were sent around the house, as well as three vehicles from the Fire Department.
It appears that the automatic mechanism that administers the chlorine gone amock letting this chemical low unchecked into the swimming pool.
None of the children was badly injured and all of them were allowed home the next day.
